The Perfect Bread

Who has not dreamed of having freshly baked bread without going shopping?

Well here we have the solution. And best is that this recipe can be made as a family and everyone can participate. My girls were delighted, kneading, and waiting for the fermented bread to double its volume. Then we made ourselves a sandwich the next day to go on a picnic at the zoo.

To preserve it, you can put it in a bread basket or wooden box or in a cloth bag, you always have to let the bread breathe. Never put it in the fridge and keep it in a cool place. It can also be frozen.

INGREDIENTS

30g butter
200ml of milk
150ml of water
5g sugar
7g dry yeast or 21g fresh yeast
600g of wheat flour
10g of salt

DIRECTIONS

  1. Melt the butter and reserve.
  2. Pour the lukewarm milk into a container (about 20 seconds in the microwave)
  3. Add the lukewarm water, the butter, the sugar and the yeast. You have to mix everything well. We can use any kitchen utensil for the mixture, like a whisk, a spatula, a fork, a spoon…
  4. Now we incorporate the flour and salt, we start mixing with the whisk or the utensil that we were using and then we start mixing with our hands.
  5. Transfer the dough to the countertop or table and knead for about 10 minutes. The dough is stretched with the palm of the hand and rolled again.
  6. After 10 minutes of kneading, make a ball, put it in a large container and cover it with a cloth and let it rest for 1 or 1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size. The container must be in a warm place, that is, do not put it in the fridge.
  7. The ball is removed from the container and kneaded again for a couple of minutes.
  8. Make a large roll and cut it into 8 equal portions (more or less).
  9. Make 8 small balls and put them on the oven tray, but without being too close to each other.
  10. Cover it again and let it ferment for another 30 minutes.
  11. Now, with the help of a strainer, put a little flour on top of the bread.
  12. A clean cut is made in the upper part of the bread and optionally a little butter is put on that cut.
  13. Now we take the bread to the preheated oven at 200ºC for about 25 minutes or until it looks golden brown on top.
  14. Let cool at room temperature for about 10 minutes and get ready to taste.
